New Delhi: The Calcutta High Court on Friday ordered a second post-mortem on the body of a man who died in judicial custody.

The petitioner alleged before the court that Kalipada may have been tortured in custody and brought to Kolkata for treatment from a correctional home in the district without the knowledge of the family. After informing the family members about his death on October 13, petitioner’s lawyer Feroz Edulji submitted that the body was collected by the family member from the government SSKM hospital.
SECOND POSTMARTOM: The Justice Mantha said it accepted the petitioner’s request for a second postmortem examination as there were allegations of unnatural death, which was also in custody. The court directed that the body of Kalipada be handed over to the government-owned RG Car Medical College and Hospital here for conducting re-postmortem examination and directed the hospital to conduct a fresh autopsy and videograph the entire process.
The judge said a copy of the videography and the second postmortem examination report should be presented to the court on October 21 at the next hearing.
